A neuron is a nerve cell. A synapse is a contact through which cells communicate. A directed connection links a source neuron to a target and may contain multiple synapses.
Upstream partners send inputs to the selected cell. Downstream partners receive its outputs. A reciprocal partner connects in both directions; it can appear in both lists.

Root IDs refer to a segmentation snapshot. Proofreading can change them. Check the dataset version and use Codex’s root-ID mapping tools if a cell cannot be found.
